I am reaching out today to friends of my blog, social media contacts from Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. I need your help.
You see, I have submitted an application to visit Uganda as part of a Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA) mission. The opportunity exists for up to eight Canadian communicators to take part in this trip of a lifetime.
This opporunity was made available to me through my day job at SaskCentral. SaskCentral is a financial services co-operative, providing research, support, consulting services and financial liquidity management to Saskatchewan’s 60 credit unions.
The fine folks that I work for are supporting me and this whole application process. If you are not familiar with SaskCentral, it is a fabulous organization that has a truly amazing culture. In fact, it has recently been recognized as Canada’s Best Workplace for 2012.
So back to the mission. What does this journey entail you may be asking yourself.
Well, what would happen if I were to be selected is I would get to travel to Uganda and learn about the CCA’s highly acclaimed Interegrated Finance and Agricultural Projects.
These projects highlight the creative alignment between co-operative farmers, credit unions and marketing. It is a glowing example of how co-operatives play a key role in strenghthening entire communities and can hlep bring people from poverty to prosperity*. Upon my return I would then share these stories with all of the co-operative networks and credit unions within my access.
What they are looking for are communicators who can come up with innovative ways to share the CCA’s work with Canadian co-operators. Applicants must be strong leaders; story tellers; relationship builders; creative thinkers; and those who have access to co-operative networks.
Now for those of you who know me well, my interest in travel, tourism, economic development and co-operatives will come as no suprise. You would also know that I love to promote people, places and things that inspire me. For those who didn’t know that, now you do. I view this as a true adventure to do just that!
Traveling to Uganda would provide me with the incredible opportunity to marry my day job and my weeknight/weekend passion for story-telling. I have submitted my application today to the CCA. It focused on what I thought I could bring to the table, which is my ability to be able to share the stories of Uganda using this blog and various social media platforms.
I have done a lot of research on Uganda and it seems like an amazing place. Additionally, the CCA program seems like it would allow for a lot of learning to take place, which I could share with you all when I return home. I hope that I am able to join this mission and share some amazing stories and photographs on this blog. Please help me make it happen!
So, what do I need from you? Support in any way, shape or form. A vote of confidence, a like on Facebook or my blog, a Twitter RT, or stop by and say hi on LinkedIn. Help me demonstrate the power of social media relationships!
I will be posting a silly pic (seen below) on Instagram for you to like and be sharing this blog post on my social networks.
Your online support could potentially impact my ability to be selected, so if you have a minute to spare, please help get me to Uganda!
